Deck, fence & wood staining
Deck and fence staining in Sarasota & Bradenton
Decks, fences, pergolas, doors and wood surfaces cleaned, prepared and stained to bring out the grain and protect it from Florida sun and rain.
Protect your wood from sun, rain and mildew
MA Performance Renovations stains and seals wood decks, fences, pergolas, railings, gates and doors in Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch and nearby communities. In our climate, unprotected wood turns gray, dries out and grows mildew quickly; the right stain blocks UV, repels water and keeps the wood looking rich for years.
Every project starts with preparation: we clean the wood, remove loose old finish and mildew, sand rough spots and replace or fasten loose boards when needed. Then we apply a quality stain in the opacity you choose, from transparent and semi-transparent that show the grain to solid colors that hide wear.

Questions
Frequently asked questions: Wood Staining
How often should a deck or fence be stained in Florida?
In the Sarasota and Bradenton sun, most decks need re-staining every 2 to 3 years and fences every 3 to 5 years. Horizontal surfaces wear faster than vertical ones because they get more sun and water.
Semi-transparent or solid stain: which is better?
Semi-transparent stain shows the natural wood grain and is ideal for newer wood in good condition. Solid stain looks more like paint, hides wear and repairs and gives the longest UV protection, so it suits older wood.
Can you stain new pressure-treated wood?
New pressure-treated wood needs time to dry before it accepts stain, usually several weeks to a few months in Florida. We can test the wood and tell you when it is ready.
Do you clean the wood before staining?
Always. We clean the wood and remove mildew and loose finish before staining, because stain over dirt or mildew peels and fades early.
What is the best weather for staining?
Dry days with mild temperatures. In Florida we plan around afternoon rain, and the wood must be dry for at least a day before staining. We schedule your project with that in mind.
